Content and Structure In response to a significant industry need, this course provides an innovative and relevant training programme for potential and practising pattern cutters and designers who need to expand their experience. We offer a large range of printmaking courses in London at our Chelsea Centre located jut off the King's Road. We have beginners, intermediate and advanced courses. These are part time courses running during the day and evening. Our lecturers are highly experienced printmaking practitioners offering a unique insight into the printmaking discipline. The techniques you learn will offer exciting ways to build on your skills and reinterpret existing artwork in print form. The unique characteristics of printmaking will open up a new world of image making and unlock your creative potential. Many of our experienced students came as beginners and many have developed a long-term commitment continuing at degree and MA level and also setting up their own studio. This will include how to prepare and output images for photo-etching using PhotoShop, preparing the photo-etching plate, exposing the image, and developing, etching and printing from a zinc plate. No previous knowledge of printmaking is required however a basic knowledge of Photoshop software is a benefit. There will be a studio of fee of for the two days, this will cover disposable materials such as inks, tissue and newsprint, cleaning materials etc. However you will need to buy your own zinc, emulsion and printing paper, all of which can be purchased on site. The department is well connected with the industry and current events and benefits from links with businesses in Hatton Garden’s jewellery quarter and with galleries, suppliers and exhibitions across London. Our team promotes a ‘hands on’ experience where you can learn and practice a wide range of skills for constructing, soldering and forming metal as well as stone setting, surface decoration and finishing. Our courses offer as much bench-work experience as possible as we believe this nurtures a thorough understanding of practical and 3-dimensional problem solving as well as gaining knowledge about materials and processes.
