People come from all over the world seeking a place to learn Spanish at an affordable price and in a comfortable environment; a place where beauty and excellence come together. UNIVERSIDAD EAFIT It is a private University well known in Colombia for its faculties in Management, Engineering, Science and Humanities. With over 12,000 students, the campus offers different environments for learning and recreation. The University has an infrastructure that supports research as well as education and cultural activities. The Founders Auditorium, Lab Center and the “Luis Echavarria Villegas” modern library, greatly reflect EAFIT´s determination to establish itself as a center of knowledge and culture in the city. In fact, EAFIT´s Symphonic Orchestra and art exhibits show how it contributes to the development of arts in Colombia as a whole. The University´s place in cultural and social progress has fostered the creation of new academic spaces that respond to Colombian needs within our globalized world. Consequently, it has opened branches in Bogotá, Pereira and Llanogrande, offering graduate and continuing education programs, research and consulting services known for their academic excellence. EAFIT LANGUAGE CENTER Founded in 1991, the Language Center is an important part of Universidad EAFIT and responds to its commitment to Colombian society. It offers high quality language programs that provide students with an optimal learning environment. In addition to its Spanish Program, the Language Center offers English, German, Japanese, French, Italian, Portuguese, Mandarin and in the near future, Korean. The center is able to serve a student population of 5,000 with a professional and highly-trained faculty encompassing an academic research and teacher´s training unit, specialized pedagogical resources and multimedia labs. The Language Center is the only institution in Colombia to hold the international quality accreditation of ACCET (USA). SPANISH FOR FOREIGNERS PROGRAM EAFIT´s Spanish for Foreigners Program began in 1995 with a few occasional students. Throughout the years, it has gained valuable experience and has consolidated its curriculum allowing more and more students from different walks of life to learn how to communicate and excel in Spanish speaking communities. Nowadays, the program receives more than 500 students per year from more than 60 different countries. Our program Spanish for Foreigners was the first program in Colombia (2010) accredited by the Instituto Cervantes (Spain) recognizing its high quality in: - Curriculum design - Teaching staff - Organization - Resources & location - Groups are formed with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 students. PROGRAM´S ACADEMIC CURRICULUM General objectives - To promote the acquisition of Spanish as a second language through the development of oral and written skills by way of a communicative approach. - To immerse participants in an authentic university environment that allows them to participate in academic, cultural and social activities that will enhance their language learning process Levels and Courses The Spanish Program is structured around the levels of proficiency defined by the Common European Framework of Reference A1: Courses 1 and 2 A2: Courses 3, 4 and 5 B1: Courses 6, 7 and 8 B2: Courses 9 , 10 and 11 C1: - Advanced grammar - Written communication - Language and culture - Business Spanish COURSE SCHEDULES Our course schedules respond to students´ needs. We offer two possibilities according to the number of hours per week. Intensive Courses Four hours a day, Monday through Friday (with a 20 minute break). These courses are completed in a two-week period. Classes take place between 9 am and 1 pm. Semi Intensive Courses Two hours a day, Monday through Friday. These courses are completed in a four-week period. Classes take place between 9 am and 11 am. COMPLEMENTARY SERVICES - Conversation partner - Multimedia language laboratory - Attending undergraduate courses (non-credit) - Extracurricular activities 100K Strong EAFIT is one of the ten Universities in Latin America that has been selected to receive grants as part of President Obama´s 100,000 Strong in the Americas program.
