Course Studies in Aviation in Ontario in Canada. Obtaining a pilot licence consists of two parts: In-flight training helps you learn and understand the performance of your aircraft. Initial flight training is conducted dual, with an Instructor, until you have achieved a level of competency that allows you to practice solo. The length of time it takes you to reach this stage will depend on your ability and frequency of training. Ground school classes prepare you for the written exam. Classes are recommended for all potential pilots. The course material simplifies the theory of flight and explains topics as diverse as aircraft structure, engine operations, and how to interpret meteorological conditions. Other integral parts of the program include interpreting Canadian air law and developing navigational skills. Second Career training is specially designed to help laid-off Ontarians participate in long-term training for a new job and may be available to pilots who hold a Private Pilot Licence. Commercial Pilot Licence Age Must be 18 years for the issue of the Licence Medical Fitness Applicant must hold a Category 1 medical Experience Applicant must hold a Private Pilot Licence An applicant shall have completed a minimum of 200 hours flight time in aeroplanes, of which a minimum of 100 hours shall be pilot-in-command time including 20 hours cross-country pilot-in-command flight time Applicant shall have completed 65 hours of commercial pilot flight training with a minimum of: (A) 35 hours dual instruction flight time including (i) 5 hours cross country (ii) 5 hours night, including a minimum of 2 hours of cross-country flight time (iii) 20 hours of instrument flight time (B) 30 hours solo flight time including (i) 25 hours solo flight time emphasizing the improvement of general flying skills of the applicant which shall include a cross-country flight to a point of a minimum of 300 nautical mile radius from the point of departure and shall include a minimum of 3 landings at points other than that of departure (ii) 5 hours solo flight time by night. Aviation Technician - Aircraft Maintenance The School of Aviation at Confederation College has a well-established Aviation Technician - Aircraft Maintenance program designed and developed in consultation with Industry and Transport Canada. This program will provide you with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to develop into a competent and reliable Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. Aircraft Maintenance is a well-established area of aviation technology with continuing requirements for entry level personnel. High on the priority list are Aircraft Maintenance Engineers as Industry Canada predicts a shortage of qualified aviation personnel in the near future. Future graduation levels must rise to meet future industry employment demands. The program is two years in duration and combines a mixture of theory and practical application. Airframe, engine and electrical courses are taught concurrently; approximately 50% of the time is devoted to practical and 50% to theory. Accreditation: The program is accredited by Transport Canada.
