A two day workshop covering the principles and practices in lighting a small theatre production including rigging and focusing theatre lanterns, the use of special effects, programming the operating desk and the operation of follow spots. The course will include practical sessions as well as presentations from the tutor. Day two will focus on sound design covering what sound is and how it can be managed, systems and equipment and how to use them, troubleshooting and the basics involved in setting up the sound for a small theatre production. Cancellation Policy The full course fee is payable as acceptance of an offer of a place on the course. In the event of cancellation more than two months prior to the course start date, a sum of €100 will be retained to cover administration costs. In the event of a cancellation less than two months prior to the course start date, the sum of €250 will be retained. A withdrawal less than one month before the course start date will result in the forfeiture of the entire fee. Application Requirements Fluency in the English language is essential. A commitment to punctuality, discipline and preparation is required from every participant. Immersion in Theatre In association with Fishamble: The New Play Company Uversity is a pioneer in arts education creating programmes for individuals to explore their potential through academic engagement and creative practice. Our unique collaborative community of practising artists and academic institutions stimulates the mind and develops practical skills. This immersive theatre programme in partnership with Fishamble: The New Play Company is a first for Ireland. Through readings, workshops, lectures, master-classes and performances with leading theatre practitioners and academics, participants will gain in-depth insights into the inspirations and operations of this Olivier Award winning theatre company. At the end of the programme, participants can write and stage their own dramatic work which will be recorded. Our Partner: Fishamble: The New Play Company Fishamble: The New Play Company is an internationally acclaimed Irish theatre company, dedicated to the discovery, development and production of new work. Fishamble is committed to touring throughout Ireland and internationally, and typically presents over 200 performances of its plays in approximately 60 venues per year. Fishamble is at the heart of new writing for theatre in Ireland, not just through its productions, but through its extensive programme of Training, Development and Mentoring schemes for the public, theatre artists, and students. Jim Culleton, Artistic Director of Fishamble is Uversity’s creative mentor for theatre and will lead the programme delivery. Who is this Programme for? We welcome participants of all ages and backgrounds. All we require is that you have an enthusiastic understanding of theatre, an openness to new experiences and a good command of written and spoken English for the playwriting component of the programme. How is the programme delivered? The full programme takes place over 5 days and includes: 3 days exploring and analysing Fishamble’s work, with master classes, focussed readings and discussions with leading theatre professionals and academics. 2 days in a structured playwriting workshop where you will create and perform your own ‘tiny play.’ Each participant will receive an individual recording of their production. Each programme will include attendance at a major theatre production in Dublin including a command performance by Pat Kinevane of one of Fishamble’s works Participants have the option to enroll for the full 5 days, for 3 days, or for 2 days. However, spaces are limited and priority will be given to those who choose the full 5 days. When Will It Take Place? This programme will run three times in 2017 in February (5 Days: 15-19 Feb; 3 Days: 15-17 Feb; 2 Days: 18-19 Feb) March (5 Days: 14-18 Mar; 3 Days: 14-16 Mar; 2 Days: 17-18 Mar) October (5 Days: 13-17 Oct; 3 Days: 13-15 Oct; 2 Days: 16-17 Oct) How Much Will It Cost? 5 Day programme: €1,300 3 Day programme: €700 2 Day programme: €700 Fee includes tuition, lunch, documentation and performance tickets but excludes travel, accommodation and other meals.
