Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media - Interactive Digital Media

If you've completed the Diploma of Screen and Media or the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media (IDM), this Advanced Diploma gives you the broad base necessary to move ahead in the art, design, screen and media industries. Many graduates and staff of this program have exhibited in festivals and conferences locally and internationally including Cannes, SIGGRAPH, Milia and Annecy.

This course has 2 specialist streams:

  • Interactive Digital Media (you must complete the Diploma of International Digital Media to enter this stream)
  • Screen (you must complete the Diploma of Screen and Media to enter this stream).

Program structure


You'll be admitted into the entry level in the training package (i.e. the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media or the Diploma of Screen and Media) and upon successful completion of either of these qualifications, you'll apply to commence the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media - either in the Interactive Digital Media stream or the Screen stream.

Year 12 applicants typically apply for 1 of the Diplomas and complete the suite of 2 programs over 2 years full-time.
Interactive Digital Media (IDM)

The Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (IDM) is focused on the design, production and management of:

  • animation
  • games
  • broadcast graphics
  • web development
  • app development.

Student projects incorporate advanced visualisation, animation, web and interactive design. You will be taught to work independently and be prepared for entry into the interactive and media design industries, or to continue further studies.

You'll focus on the following key areas:

  • concept development
  • independent production
  • advanced animation and visualisation
  • games, app, web and interactive development
  • compositing and visual effects production
  • sound design.

Entry requirements


For entry in to Multimedia stream, you must have successfully completed the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media at RMIT University or an equivalent qualification at another institution.

For entry in to Screen stream, you must have successfully completed the Diploma of Screen and Media at RMIT University or an equivalent qualification at another institution.


Selection tasks

Folio: You must supply evidence of your creativity in the form of a folio that contains a variety of your personal work in art, design or media relevant to the program/s you are applying for. The folio should demonstrate your interests and creative thinking as well as your conceptual, design, problem solving and technical skills. You should include evidence of how ideas were developed as well as finished works.

Examples of work to include in your folio are drawings, paintings, graphic designs, photographs, digital images, models, sculpture, video, scripting, short stories, and/or 2D and 3D Flash animation.

We recommend you explain each work to help the Selection Officer understand the purpose and background of that work.

Folios should be submitted electronically on a CD with files in PDF, JPEG, SWF, DCR or QuickTime format suitable to be read on Mac OSX or later, unless otherwise specified. Each electronic file should be no larger than 10MB. You must present your folio at an assessment session (if you are living outside Melbourne, this can be conducted via email, phone or Skype).


English language requirements:

To study this program you will need to complete the Academic IELTS with an overall band of 5.5 and no individual band below 5.0.
