TAFE Western Australia

This course prepares students for work as professionals in the studio or as freelance operators. Students create high quality animation projects, a show reel and meet with local industry groups. They enhance their skills and knowledge in visual effects, modelling, texturing, rigging, motion graphics, and character animation for film, broadcasting and games. Students also acquire knowledge in:

  • Preproduction and concept art
  • 3D character modelling and rigging
  • Visual Effects:
    • tracking & CGI / live plate integration
    • matte painting & set extensions
    • compositing
    • particle effects
  • Motion Graphics
  • Architectural Visualisation
  • 3D character animation

Access to a personal computer is highly recommended.

Units

Students must complete a total number of 13 core units. Core units are :

  • Model, texture and rig 3D characters
  • Create 3D digital visualisations
  • Create pre-production for animation
  • Create production art for animation
  • Practice compositing to industry standard
  • Research, analyse and prepare for the animation industry
  • Integrate photo-real CGI with live action
  • Create motion graphics
  • Design and integrate sound for animation
  • Produce character performance animation
  • Originate and develop concepts
  • Develop storylines and treatments
  • Produce a digital animation sequence
