Semester 1 English classes – (If required)

Hunter TAFE is home to the award-winning Newcastle English Language Centre. This Centre operates 51 weeks of the year with a full range of study options available to all students, even those on visas other than student visas.

This program will run for 20 weeks for a discounted price AUD$5,000 (AUD$250/week).

The program includes:

  • English for Exam Preparation.
  • Cambridge First Certificate (FCE).
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE).
  • IELTS Preparation.
  • General English Beginners to Advanced.
  • English for Academic Purposes.

Entry level for this product is a minimum IELTS 4.5 OR Equivalent

Please note: Our English Language Centre can assess English proficiency prior to enrolment.

Semester 2 - 3 Diploma of Visual Arts

This course provides training for students who wish to become visual artists, or artists who wish to improve their technical skills in a friendly group environment. The qualification provides specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills to prepare for and develop an emerging arts practice. You will be able to plan and realise a body of work in one or more art forms. Visual arts practice at this level is underpinned by a sound grasp of art theory and history and the ability to critically analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources. Discourse and communication around complex ideas are also required.

Based on your choice of Electives, you may develop knowledge and skills in range of areas, including: painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photo imaging, creative technologies (digital arts), ceramics, jewellery, textiles, paper, design, small business skills, presentation and exhibition, public art, studio work experience.

You may wish to study a pathway within this course that provides a 'specialist' visual arts/fine arts outcome. This will be dependent on the electives studied.

Individual course cost: AUD$15,000.00

Entry level Submission of a portfolio, design or written task and IELTS 6.0

Semester 3 – 4 Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts

This qualification is for people who want to work as an independent professional visual arts practitioners who have a command of wide-ranging, highly specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills and knowledge. These skills will allow you to extend and refine your practice to a point where you are able to originate, realise and exhibit a substantial body of resolved work that expresses your individual creative vision. The ability to engage in critical discourse and debate about your own work and the work of others is underpinned by a mature engagement with a range of theoretical concepts and historical perspectives.

You will be working in a wide range of contexts across the arts and other industries. You are often sole practitioner but may also hold positions in government or commercial organisations, bringing the visual arts perspective to areas such as business, community services and science. At this level, you may also teach art in a range of different community contexts.

This course is for people who want to be competent in the installation and management of small scale networks, either as an independent network support technician or as part of a team.
