African Leadership Academy’s Global Scholars Program (GSP) is a 3-week leadership development program for young people aged 15 to 19 years from all over the world. It is led by the Academy’s renowned Entrepreneurial Leadership faculty, graduates from the Academy’s Two Year Program, and Educators from diverse professional backgrounds. GSP is an opportunity for young people to learn and develop the entrepreneurial leadership skills needed to become leaders of the 21st century and global agents of positive change. Participants will learn BUILD – a design thinking model for developing a human-centered approach to solving community problems and apply this knowledge at a Community Service Site in Johannesburg. Through working in diverse teams, GSP participants build powerful global connections while gaining a deeper understanding of Africa and the world.

Founded in 2004 by Fred Swaniker, Chris Bradford, Peter Mombaur, and Acha Leke, the African Leadership Academy (ALA) officially opened in September 2008 with an inaugural class of 97 students with the mandate of identifying and developing the next generation of African leaders.
Through the years, ALA has provided young leaders with a world class education that has enabled them to tap into their potential to make an impact in Africa. This lifelong leadership journey has its foundations in the unique entrepreneurial leadership curriculum that develops interpersonal skills that are essential for future agents of positive change in Africa.
The Global Scholars program (GSP) is a natural branch of ALA that seeks to bring ALA’s programs to the international community. Since its inception in 2011, GSP has reached not only future leaders in Africa but leaders from around the world.
The Global Scholars Program is comprised of a team of dedicated staff and faculty who share in the vision of ALA and will ensure that this life changing experience is passed on to both participants and volunteering educators.
African Leadership Academy has global support and is entrusted with the care and safety of the next generation of Africa’s leaders. We provide a safe, stimulating and rich environment for youth development with a large team of educators and experienced management. We take governance and organisational growth very seriously and are fortunate to have a highly experienced Board of Trustees and the support of our Global Advisory Council.
